Wine-growing area

wide - diverse - hilly

With Rheinhessen we are number 1 in Germany but only in terms of area. With around 26,400 hectares of vineyards, Rheinhessen is the largest German wine-growing region. It consists of the three areas of Bingen, Wonnegau and Nierstein with 24 large layers and around 400 individual layers.

Geographically we find the "land of a thousand hills" in the square between Bingen, Mainz, Alzey and Worms. Rheinhessen actually has everything a winegrower needs for a wine-growing region, mild temperatures, long hours of sunshine and days with little rainfall with just enough rainfall.

We also find a large number of grape varieties, such as Dornfelder, Silvaner, Portuguese, Pinot Noir, Kerner, Pinot Gris, Scheurebe, Cabernet Dorsa, Blue Early Burgundy, Cabernet, Cabernet Mitos, Dunkelfelder, Domina, Acolon, Merlot, St.Laurent, Regent, Hüxelrebe, Traminer, Chardonnay, Bacchus, Silvaner and Riesling. Maybe I have neglected a few, but Rheinhessen is simply magically versatile. Now one could assume that the quality in terms of materiality, finesse and finishing style would be just as magical.

We also find diverse soils in Rheinhessen such as loess, sediments, weathered soils, marl, quartzite and porphyry weathered soils. Often the best wines come from selected parcels of the vineyards.
