The Veldenzer Elisenberg includes the vineyard that belonged to our ancestor Franz Ludwig Niessen, the grandfather of Max Ferd. Richter, given by the population of the county after he was able to repel the threat posed by Napoleon I. The vineyard is named after Queen Luise of Prussia, who died early; Luisen‘s vineyard became Elisenberg over time. The vineyard in the south-southwestern exposure has a special microclimate and a unique soil with a high proportion of quartzite, which contributes to a very special wine style. In the wines from the Elisenberg, aromas of red berries dominate, such as raspberries, blackberries and blackcurrants and, together with the complex acid structure, form very playful and long-lasting wines. Wines from the Elisenberg have enjoyed a high international reputation since the end of the 19th century, and the Elisenberg (er) location is mentioned in the same breath as the other major locations on the Moselle such as Brauneberg, Piesporter Goldtröpfchen, Wehlener Sonnenuhr or Scharzhofberger. Our company has also been honored several times to date to deliver wines from this vineyard to the English royal family.
