Van Volxem
At the heart of our quality philosophy are elaborate wine-growing measures, ranging from near-natural, purely organic soil management to accurate manual foliage work.
In order to harvest very ripe, highly aromatic fruit, we limit the yield to an average of around 40 hl/ha through a variety of measures such as green harvesting or grape division.
Since 2001, the new and subsequent planting of vines has been carried out exclusively with predominantly ungrafted selection vines (source: Van Volxem winery).
The winery has its original headquarters in the historic center of Wiltingen, the most important wine-growing community in the Saar. As a former monastery winery of the Luxembourg Jesuits, it has had large plots of land in the best slate slopes of the Saar since the early 18th century. These include top locations steeped in history such as the VDP.GROSSE LAGEN® SCHARZHOFBERGER, GOTTEFUSS and VOLZ. In recent years, the portfolio of sites has been expanded to include excellent vineyards in Ockfen, Wawern, Saarburg and Kanzem.
The Van Volxem winery, managed by Roman Niewodniczanski, has won many titles and awards. At my last tasting in Wiesbaden I was also allowed to taste the GG and I was pretty impressed with the mouthfeel and minerality and now I'm happy to have a few Van Volxem wines in my portfolio.
