Between Norheim and Niederhausen there are steep rocks made of volcanic hard stone (Phorphyr and Melaphyr) directly on the Nahe. Between these rocks are small mountain hollows, known in local dialect as "Dellchen". The schisty soils are mixed here with the stony weathering material of the adjacent volcanic rocks. The extremely steep terrain, which faces exactly south, is terraced by dry stone walls. In the shelter of the bordering rocks, the Riesling vines reach very high degrees of ripeness, and the wines have a great potential for ripening when the varietal character is particularly typical.
