Aroma profile: Silvaner wines often have a more subtle aroma compared to other white wine varieties. They usually have high acidity, which gives them freshness, as well as notes of citrus, green apples, pears and sometimes herbs and minerals.
Body: Silvaner wines are often medium to full-bodied, making them a good accompaniment to hearty dishes such as roast pork or fried trout.
Growing Conditions: Silvaner thrives best in cooler climates, particularly in regions with chalky soils. In Germany, Silvaner is grown in Franconia and Rheinhessen, but also in other wine regions such as the Palatinate and Baden.
Aging: Silvaner wines are often aged in stainless steel tanks to preserve their fresh acidity and subtle aromas. However, they can also be aged in oak barrels, which gives them additional complexity.
Usage: Due to its high acidity and medium body, Silvaner is well suited as an accompaniment to a variety of dishes, particularly fish, seafood, salads and vegetable dishes. In Germany, Silvaner is also often served as an accompaniment to asparagus, as it doesn't mask the light, subtle flavors of the asparagus.
