grape varieties

Before Riesling began its triumphant march through German vineyards in the 19th century, the white Orleans grape variety was one of the most widespread in Germany. Afterwards, the last vines were uprooted and the variety was long considered extinct. It wasn't until the 1980s and 90s that Professor Becker from the Geisenheim University of Applied Sciences succeeded in re-cultivating the variety from wild vines he had found on abandoned terraces of the Rüdesheimer Berg.
