The VDP.GROSSE LAGE® CENTGRAFENBERG is located in the Miltenberg basin. Here the Main has dug a deep, narrow bed. At the most south-westerly curve of the Main River, a basin forms on the south-facing side of which the Burgstadt vineyards of Centgrafenberg and Hundsrück are located. A warm microclimate can develop here in the protection of the low mountain range Odenwald and Spessart. The CENTGRAFENBERG GL location has a slope of around 10 to 40 percent and is at an altitude of 160 to 250 meters. The red sandstone floors customary here were created from the oldest rock of the TRIAS formation. Different stages of weathering of this rock shape the location. Pinot Noir in particular benefits from the red sandstone floor, which is rich in iron. The west-facing, somewhat cooler locations in the Bürgstadt CENTGRAFENBERG are predestined for Riesling. History: Churfranken, the western part of Franconia was once subordinate to the Prince-Bishops of Mainz until it came to Bavaria after Napoleon. A rich viticulture culture and the wine town of Bürgstadt with its many old cellars, which date from the heyday after 1500, also date from this time. Red wine cultivation has been documented in Churfranken for centuries. The term cent - from Centgrafenberg - is also derived from a hundred and indicates an early settlement history here in the Miltenberg basin with a Celtic fortress from 3000 BC. Chr.
