The VDP.GROSSE LAGE® TREPPCHEN extends from 110 to 260 meters above sea level along the Moselle opposite Erden. It faces southwest and is quite steep with a slope of 50 to 80 percent. The vineyards are criss-crossed by heat-storing vineyard walls - the main grape variety, Riesling, grows on a single pile. The floors of the GL TREPPCHEN consist of weathered red clay slate - the proportion of rock is high. History: The location is named after a stone staircase that was built centuries ago and leads into the steep, difficult-to-reach vineyards. In 1998, an antique wine press from the second century was found in the podium - it indicates that viticulture was already practiced here in Roman times. It is the oldest known Roman wine press north of the Alps. (Quelle: VDP)
