Vineyard Erdener Treppchen
This vineyard is right on the eastern side of the prelate and is so steep that stone steps were built into the hillside centuries ago so that workers could better reach the vines. There are many varieties of slate in the Erdener podium. Creamy, mineral wines with great elegance and finesse are created from the reddish, gray and clay slate.
Soil: red clay slate weathered soil.
Size: 36.5 hectares | Exposure: South | Steepness: 50 - 65%
Wine style: Wines with a mineral structure and a pronounced acid structure.
The VDP.GROSSE LAGE® TREPPCHEN extends from 110 to 260 meters above sea level along the Moselle opposite Erden. It faces southwest and is quite steep with a slope of 50 to 80 percent. The vineyards are criss-crossed by heat-storing vineyard walls - the main grape variety, Riesling, grows on a single pile. The floors of the GL TREPPCHEN consist of weathered red clay slate - the proportion of rock is high. History: The location is named after a stone staircase that was built centuries ago and leads into the steep, difficult-to-reach vineyards. In 1998, an antique wine press from the second century was found in the podium - it indicates that viticulture was already practiced here in Roman times.
