The VDP.GROSSE LAGE® HUNDSRÜCK is located in the valley basin of Miltenberg. Here the Main has dug a deep, narrow bed. At the most south-westerly curve of the Main River, a basin forms on the south-facing side of which the Burgstadt vineyards of Centgrafenberg and Hundsrück are located. A warm microclimate can develop here in the protection of the low mountain range Odenwald and Spessart. The HUNDSRÜCK encompasses the eastern parcels of the Bürgstadter Berg and is at the same time a south-facing slope with an ideal incline of 35 percent. In the subsoil of the HUNDSRÜCK there are weathered layers of the red sandstone with a red to orange color. Due to this special feature, the soil can be heated very easily, has a high iron content, is well ventilated and also has very good drainage properties. The very barren soil in the HUNDSRÜCK does not forgive any management errors such as overloading the vines. On the other hand, with optimal management, it enables the finest Pinot Noir with finesse, elegance and at the same time a powerful appearance. History: In the 1971 Wine Law, the Hundsrück was added to the Centgrafenberg. Since 2010, the Hundsrück area, which was already tax-classified in 1564, has been registered again as an independent area in the vineyard register and since then has enabled the marketing of individual and specific HUNDSRÜCK wines.
