Many small and tiny terraces, lined with slate walls, determine the appearance of the VDP.GROSSEN LAGE® ALTE LAY. It is 150 meters above sea level above the Walporzheim community. It slopes south to south-east towards the Ahr. Their steep slopes have a gradient of up to 50 percent. Weathered slate and greywacke characterize their floors. Pinot Noir is cultivated here. History: The word "Lay" comes from the Celtic and means "rock" or "slate rock". A prominent rock ledge also characterizes this single location.
