VDP.GROSSE LAGE distinguishes the highest quality German vineyards. The best wines ripen here with a complex taste, expressive character from the vineyard and special aging potential. GRAPE VARIETIES
Regionally defined grape varieties suitable for the respective vineyard.
YIELD
The harvest is limited to a maximum yield of 50 hl per hectare.
READ AND READ TIME
The grapes are selectively harvested by hand. At the time of harvest, the must weight must be at least 85 Oechsle degrees, which corresponds to the quality of a "late harvest".
VINIFICATION
The wines are produced exclusively using traditional production methods.
CERTIFICATION
In addition to the usual VDP.company audit, the wines from VDP.GROSSEN LAGEN © are subject to additional control and testing: The quality-oriented work in the vineyard and, in particular, the yield level are monitored in each vineyard during the entire vegetation period and before the harvest. The wines are checked and confirmed by an examination committee before and after bottling.
LABELLING
Dry wines from VDP.GROSSER LAGE © are referred to as VDP.GROSSES GEWÄCHS © and are bottled in a special bottle with the GG grape logo embossed on the glass. The dry taste is mandatory. Semi-dry wines have no other designation. The semi-dry taste is optional. The same applies to fine dry wines.
A wine from VDP.GROSSER LAGE © bears the name of the winery and the grape variety as well as the name of the location without the place name as an indication of its origin on the label. Every wine from VDP.GROSSER LAGE © has a corresponding label on the capsule.
In exceptional cases, the use of the special bottle can be dispensed with and the “GG-Traube” logo can be placed on the front label.
MARKETING
The white wines under the VDP.GROSSEN GEWÄCHSEN © are not brought onto the market until they have matured for around one year from September 1st. And the red wines mature one year longer - at least 12 months of which in oak barrels - and are only released for sale from September 1st of the second calendar year following the harvest.
