The Palatinate, competent - traditional - culinary good.

The Palatinate can be found south of Worms to the French border, with an area of around 23,500 hectares, the Palatinate is the second largest cultivation area after Rheinhessen. Despite this size, we only find 2 areas, the Mittelhaardt-German Wine Route and the Southern Wine Route. These two areas are home to 25 major locations and 330 individual locations.

The white grape varieties set the tone with a share of approx. 60%, such as Riesling (approx. 5400 hectares), Müller-Thurgau, Kerner, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris. The reds come with the remaining 40% share, first the Dornfelder with around 3,100 hectares, then the Portuguese, followed by the Pinot Noir.

Why does the Palatinate make great wines? Perhaps because of the varied Palatinate cuisine, she definitely deserved these wines. But the Palatinate has always produced dry, top-quality plants, and that has not changed today either. The guarantee for this success are the climate, the soil and a lot of traditional knowledge about winemaking, plus a lot of tradition.

The average climate is quite mild, with many sunny days and the soil is quite varied with red sandstone, loam and clay soils, marl, keupber, shell limestone, granite, slate and porphry.

The Palatinate, one of the most beautiful landscapes in Germany, is a true paradise for connoisseurs. Joy of life and enjoyment have always been a top priority here. Pampered by around 1,800 hours of sunshine a year, figs and almond trees are just as much a part of nature as the vines. The vineyards of the Palatinate extend in the wind and rain shadow of the Haardt Mountains along the German Wine Route: in the north from Bockenheim to Schweigen, in the south to the border of Alsace. You will find a variety of different types of soil along the wine route, and thus optimal conditions for the cultivation of top-quality terroir wines. In the Mittelhaardt region, the main focus is traditionally on Riesling, which has been producing wines of great quality here in the dry as well as in the noble sweet range for a long time. From Kallstadt via Ungstein to Bad Dürkheim the top locations are on a limestone reef, while from Wachenheim to Gimmeldingen red sandstone weathered rock determines the soils. Depending on the location, limestone, clay, basalt or loam are embedded in these. With wines from world-famous locations such as the Forster Kirchenstück, traditional wineries such as Dr. Bürklin-Wolf, Dr. von Bassermann-Jordan or Reichsrat von Buhl ready for world fame in the last centuries. In the area south of Neustadt, the Burgundy, with which some of the wineries have caused a sensation in recent years, play just as important a role as Riesling. Shell limestone soils are often found here, which offer very good conditions for producing large white, gray and pinot noirs. But there are also very special terroirs for Riesling, such as the chestnut bush in Birkweiler, which has mostly rocks of upper red "red slate".
