wine description

2022 KIESELBERG Riesling GG

VDP.GROSSE LAGE® 2022 Deidesheimer KIESELBERG Riesling GROSSES GEWÄCHS | dry

The Kieselberg is located west of Deidesheim on the slope of the Haardt Mountains and lies between the Leinhöhle and the Mäushöhle. Meaning as in New High German: pebble, coarse-grained, stony sand. First mentioned in the 13th century - in 1234 Cuselberch. The location is entirely on a small plateau. The northern border to the Mäushöhle forms a sandstone wall. The plateau slopes slightly to the south and borders the Leinhöhle and Hohenmorgen. The grapes come from the oldest plot of our Kieselberg, which was planted in 1979. A small portion of the hand-picked grapes were destemmed and fermented on the mash; the larger portion was gently pressed. The must was pre-clarified by sedimentation and then 70% fermented in stainless steel tanks and 30% in traditional wooden barrels. The fermented grapes were also pressed after 7 days and the fermenting must was transferred to the wooden barrel. The individual lots were put together shortly before filling in July. The KIESELBERG Riesling GG primarily shows hints of pear and apple on the nose, but there is also a hint of mirabelle plum. Juicy in the mouth with elegant acidity, fine minerality and a long finish, the wine is steely and precise. A wonderful accompaniment to fine cuisine with white meat, fish and poultry with light sauces. Feel free to give the Kieselberg another 3-5 years of aging in the bottle before drinking it.
