wine description

2024 BERG SCHLOSSBERG Riesling

2024 Rüdesheim BERG SCHLOSSBERG Riesling

After eleven months of aging in old oak barrels and half-barrels, the wine displays an intense aroma of stone fruit and citrus notes reminiscent of orange peel. These are complemented by notes of old wood with a pronounced minerality. It is remarkably persistent on the palate, characterized by a salty minerality, vibrant acidity, and a touch of tannin. The finish is exceptionally long, with considerable drive and remarkable depth. This is a wine that can develop for many years. The Schlossberg vineyard lies in the bend of the Rhine, where the river has carved its way back north. Here, the steepest vineyards in the Rheingau, with gradients of up to 65%, are partially retained by high vineyard walls. The soils consist of barren Rhine slate and Taunus quartzite, which also act as heat reservoirs. The vineyard takes its name from Ehrenfels Castle, the ruins of which are still visible from afar.
