The church piece is from the Paradelage winery in Hohen-Sülzen. It is a very old vineyard that was mentioned in a document before the Thirty Years' War. Her original name was Griebelsteyn - and this onomatopoeic name is very apt. Because the support of the church piece consists of soft, calcareous stones that you can rub between your fingers. And that is also the secret of the church piece: the vines have a good supply of nutrients, despite the fact that the subsoil is extremely calcareous. In this way, the grapes can develop an opulent fruit without appearing one-dimensional or superimposed.
The vines for the single-vineyard Kirchenstück have an average age of 35 years. The yields are very low, the must is highly concentrated. Despite the density and thickness, the wine is a flatterer, especially a nasal flatterer. A ripe fruit basket with pineapple, sweet mirabelle plums and candied citrus fruits literally jumps towards you. You first think of abundance and opulence, until you are completely surprised in your mouth by the straight, almost prancing style. The mineral structure and the perfectly balanced acidity complement each other ideally for the ripe character of this wine.
