wine description

2019 Blanc de Noir Sekt

VDP.SEKT: 2019 Blanc de Noir Sekt

Guided by the principles of craftsmanship, passion, patience, and our slate-driven terroir, we present a 2019 vintage sparkling wine made from Pinot Noir grapes. Aged on the lees for an extended period, it impresses with fine minerality and elegant structure—fully embodying the quality standards we have upheld across five generations of winemaking.

A look back: The 2019 vintage in the Ahr region was marked by intense heat, including record-breaking temperatures in July. It was precisely this vintage that saw us commit wholeheartedly to a premium sparkling wine production process: following the practice common in Champagne, the grapes were pressed gently and carefully, with the aim of allowing the base wine to undergo an exceptionally long period of bottle-aging on the lees from the very start. After the second fermentation in the bottle—using the *Méthode Traditionnelle*—the sparkling wine matured on the lees for over 68 months in the cool, dark environment beneath the vineyards of Dernau, allowing it to slowly and meticulously unfold its full potential.

Nurturing a sparkling wine over such a long period, tasting it repeatedly, and witnessing its evolution was an extraordinary experience for us and our team. During a tasting earlier this year, it finally reached the flavor profile we had envisioned: mineral-driven and lean, yet extremely precise, offering a subtle interplay of aromas featuring ripe apples, yellow mirabelle plums, and a hint of brioche. We deliberately chose not to add a dosage; our sparkling wine is a *Brut Nature*, meaning no sugar was added during disgorgement.
