wine description

2015 Chardonnay - Réserve | brut | Raumland

The exceptional 2015 vintage allowed us to fully express the intensity and spice of our grapes. The fine texture of the 2015 cuvées resulted in exquisite, harmonious, and exceptionally approachable sparkling wines. This is also true of this Chardonnay. The bouquet unfolds aromas of yellow fruits such as mirabelle plum and vineyard peach, as well as citrus fruits, hinting at an exciting and well-integrated acidity. The extended lees aging of over 90 months imparts subtle nutty notes to the wine. On the palate, the effervescence creates a lively and delicate sensation. Our calcareous soils in Rheinhessen and the siliceous soils around Bockenheim in the Palatinate region contribute to this sparkling wine's vibrant complexity and powerful structure.

The year began early in the vineyard with a mild spring, followed by a dry and hot summer. Minimal leaf removal to preserve the finesse of the vintage, and then in September the long-awaited rain with falling temperatures, which kept the acidity levels in the grapes stable. A textbook grape harvest with an early picking, resulting in more powerful and spicy sparkling wines compared to 2014.
