Vineyard
The VDP.GROSSE LAGE® MARIENBURG is characterized by its high diversity. Due to its location in a pronounced bend in the Moselle, the orientation extends from south to south-south-east - so the microclimates change in a small area, which gives the wines a multi-layered appearance. What is special about this location is that the slope on which the GL MARIENBURG is located also slopes down to the rear (north side) towards the Moselle, as the loops of the river are very close here. The sunlight is intense in the 50 to 80 percent steep location, so it warms up well in the summer months. The vineyards stretch from 98 to 198 meters. As in only a few other places, in the vineyards opposite Pünderich, the soil types typical for the Moselle alternate from gray weathered slate to blue slate to the rather rare red slate. The latter runs a little through the Rothenpfad plot, directly above the railway viaduct. The Fahrlay parcel is right next to the Pünderich ferry pier and is the only area that dominates GL MARIENBURG in the blue slate. The proportion of stones here is very high and deep. The Falkenlay plot is between Fahrlay and Rothenpfad, is more profound and characterized by gray slate. Due to the very protected location, the grapes always reach a special ripeness here. In this area, noble sweet Auslese and Bererenauslese from Botrytis selections are often produced. In the parcels of the rock terrace, light gray slate dominates, which is criss-crossed by ferrous layers and less weathered than the adjacent areas.
