2017 HIPPING Riesling GG

VDP.GROSSE LAGE: 2017 Nierstein HIPPING Riesling Grosses Gewächs | dry

Hipping - red carpet for Riesling. With the hipping we complete our offer of locations in the central part of the red slope.

In Nackenheim, the red rock of the subterranean slate band begins to protrude from the earth for the first time and to run along the banks of the Rhine before this band disappears again a few kilometers south in Nierstein. The unique vineyards of Rothenberg, Pettenthal, Hipping and the Ölberg are directly exposed to the Rhine river like a string of pearls. With the Mount of Olives, the red slope swings to the west and moves away from the Rhine again. These few kilometers between Nackenheim and Nierstein are the heart of the Rheinhessen slate Riesling.

Our south-east facing parcel in Hipping is impressively framed by a red slate rock and depicts an amphitheater in miniature. Since it is located in the highest part of the Hipping, an even exposure to the sun and a barren, rocky subsoil is guaranteed. We have been cultivating the parcel according to our ecological guidelines for several years and with the 2014 vintage the soil structure, the stability of the vines and the quality of the grapes are so high that the bottling as a large plant is now more than justified.

Is it the middle position of Hipping between Pettenthal and Ölberg? In any case, our large plant from hipping combines the spiciness of the Pettenthal with the fine fruit of the Mount of Olives. The nose is extremely expressive with notes of lime, white peach, some violets and this unique background of slightly roasted nuts. In the mouth the wine appears like a mixture of completely fat-free muscles covered with a wonderfully soft layer of velvet. There is tension, power, minerality, which are surrounded by a wonderfully sensual softness. (Source: Weingut Kühling-Gillot)
