wine description

2022 HOHENMORGEN Riesling GG

VDP.GROSSE LAGE®: 2022 Deidesheim HOHENMORGEN Riesling GROSSES GEWÄCHS | dry

HOHENMORGEN is considered the best location in Deidesheim. Located on the western outskirts of Deidesheim, HOHENMORGEN extends over almost 3 hectares; 2.09 hectares of which are owned by Bassermann-Jordan. The name goes back to the old area measurement “acre” and refers to the amount of land that a man with a team can plow in one morning. The “high” portion describes the retaining walls up to seven meters high on which the vineyard stands. The location is completely south facing. After the selective hand-picking, the grapes were gently pressed and the must was sedimented for 24 hours. 50% of the fermentation took place in large wooden barrels, the rest in stainless steel tanks. After fermentation ended, the individual batches remained on the full yeast until filling, only then were they put together and filtered. The 2022 HOHENMORGEN has a herbal, subtly fruity nose with fine smoke. Yellowish fruit, with nuances of mango, pineapple and mirabelle plum. The wine is initially sparkling, then juicy and complex. The minerality is sparse and gives the wine a fine mouthfeel and allows it to linger for a long time.

This Riesling GG goes very well with grilled fish or poultry with light sauces, but can also be combined very well with Asian dishes, duck or even salads with vinegar-based dressings.
