wine description

2020 GANZ HORN Riesling GG

VDP.GROSSE LAGE: 2020 GANZ HORN Riesling Grosses Gewächs | dry

vineyard:
While most of the vineyards along the Haardtrandes, the transition from the Rhine plain to the Palatinate Forest, through the The Rheingraben, which runs from south to north and was formed as eastern slopes, exist in the Palatinate Forest in the Rheintal leading Queichtal also southern slopes. The "Siebeldinger Sommerseite" has the location designation "Im Sunshine". The vineyards are 160 to 225 m above sea level and have a 5 to 20% slope. Our plot, which is called "Siebeldinger Ganshorn" was known for our top Rieslings even before the wine law was changed in 1971 Southern slope protected from cold air (175 m above sea level) west of the "German Wine Route" below the Geilweilerhof. 2.5 hectares classified as VDP.GROSSE LAGE, in which we farm 2.1 hectares.

Soil:
Due to the lowering and the faults of the Rhine Graben and the strong uplift of the Palatinate Forest, the area changes Siebeldingen very old and deep-lying geological formations to light. The floors are in the position "in the sunshine". therefore very different. The soil of our plot "GANZ HORN" is geologically quite young Formed about 1 million years ago during the Pleistocene. During and after the ice ages in the Queichtal were huge transported quantities of gravel from the Palatinate Forest, which were deposited on the slopes. This soil, a mixture from the colored sandstone of the Palatinate Forest, gravel and clay, is an ideal soil for our Riesling vines. Some of the Pebbles are made of pure quartz crystal. These pebbles are processed into our Biodynamic Preparation 501.

Viticulture:
Since 2006, all our vineyards have been farmed organically. We not only promote the complex, biodynamic interactions of the species-rich "vineyard ecosystem", but also create more individuality in the wineand ensure better sustainability in the incomparable wine-cultural landscape of the Palatinate. Old vines are one A prerequisite for BIG wines, which is why we spend a lot of time cultivating our old plots and keeping the old ones Vines young and vital.

Vinification:
After selective manual picking in several reading passes, the grapes were destemmed. For the 24-hour maceration time
This is followed by gentle pressing and pre-clarification through natural sedimentation of the must lees. Then the
Most fermented in stainless steel tanks. After 5 months of storage on the full lees, racking followed in March 2021 and in June
2021 the bottling.

Wine:
The location "GANZ HORN" IN THE SUNSHINE is always the most puristic of our locations. The salty mineral notes typical of the location are reminiscent of the pebbles of the hillside gravel soil, which the fine scent of white Peach and ripe citrus follows. After a short time, the wine unfolds, and the typical for a young Riesling Yeast notes underline the whole thing. The wine is also characterized by a fine salty-mineral acidity, its never-ending length and the very multi-layered, complex elegant finesse call for another sip.
Like all Rebholz wines, the wine has great storage potential.
