2019 DAS KREUZ Cuvée | dry
Origin:
The grapes come from the hottest location in Freinsheim, "Black Cross". The dry gravel and sand soils are the basis for powerful red wines. The focus of the cuvée is the Merlot grape, supplemented by St. Laurent, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.
Vineyard work:
Sowing buckwheat, clover and radish to root the soil and attract beneficial insects. Incorporation of horse manure as natural fertilization. Removal of double shoots, clipping of the grape zone.
Vinification:
The grapes for the premium wine "Das Kreuz" are picked by hand, sorted again and destemmed in the winery. The grapes go into their fermentation tanks without pumping. After a short maceration time, the mash ferments spontaneously with natural yeasts. Aging in new and used barriques for 20 months.
