2021 Steinberg Niederhausen Riesling Spätlese
A not insignificant detail for the Steinberg site is the color of the Lemberg porphyry soil, which is light beige in colour. Because the ground here is very light, it always stays rather cool even in summer. This results in wines that taste tight and stony. The Steinberg GG's are strong characters with a lot of depth. Simply mega-mineral, with traction on the palate and wonderfully fresh acidity.
The vineyard stands above the noble Hermannsberg and next to the legendary copper mine, but the Steinberg is not a synthesis of these contrasting peaks of our vineyard portfolio. Actually, the name of this location says it all: on this south-southwest oriented steep slope, there are hard stones from Lemberg porphyrite, a light-colored, yellowish volcanic rock that reflects a lot of solar energy. Therefore, the extremely barren soils lead to cool and puristic wines whose trademark is their crystalline charisma. In recent years, they have gained more and more elegance.
